Trust the Sewer Lateral Specialists

The sewer lateral for a home or business is its main artery for carrying the plumbing systems waste to the city sewer system or septic system. Slow flushing toilets or water backing up in a tub or shower is a good indicator that there is an issue with that main artery (your sewer lateral or building drain). If the issue is not addressed quickly, thousands of dollars of damage can occur within a home or building, not to mention the inconvenience of being unable to use your plumbing.

If you suspect a sewer or drain issue, call Fortune Plumbing today. We have been unclogging, inspecting, repairing, and replacing drain lines and sewer laterals for over three decades. We will get your drains and sewer line back up and running!

Common Causes of Sewer Line Damage or Failure

  • Root infiltration
Sometimes trees are planted too close to or even over a sewer line, or the trees simply outgrow their space over the years. The roots may enter a sewer fitting or joint that has separated due to poor installation or damage from large equipment driving above or simply due to the age and type of pipe, which can be true with orange burg, concrete, cast iron, or clay pipe. The roots enter the pipe and begin to grow. As discharge from the home encounters the roots, it slows down, causing the solids to sit in the pipe as the water continues on. Eventually, the solids build up, or the roots grow so large the sewer line becomes clogged. Fortune Plumbing uses the latest tools to assess, locate, and remove those roots in the sewer or drain.

  • Broken, cracked, or collapsed pipes
Complete failure of a sewer line or fitting can happen due to shifting soil or trenches not back-filled properly at installation, tree roots pushing on them, or any number of other reasons. In this case, excavation is usually required to make a proper repair.

  • Other issues
Other issues can range from grease build-up to excess scale, such as in cast iron pipe, poor grade and sags in the line, or foreign objects being improperly or accidentally flushed down the drain. Fortune Plumbing has the knowledge and equipment to deal with all these issues.
